Best movies for cancer
Cancer is the main water sign of the zodiac, so films for this sign should feature intense emotions, strong commitments and nurturing roles, with storylines related to family, health and tragic characters.
The Moon rules this sign and focuses on the strength of the heart, so movies about love and heartache will appeal to people with this Sun sign
Comedy
Love, Actually (2003)
The film has an ensemble cast and follows the love lives of eight different couples. The themes for each couple range from unrequited love to new love, from first love to betrayal to love after loss. Set in London, the story combines some American elements, creating comedy gold along the way.
Why cancer will love it
Cancer is a sign that loves to have its heart pulled, even if some of those strings bring heartache. The emotional range, including a very difficult situation where one of the couples cannot get what they really want because of an obligation that one of them does not want to fulfill, is oh so Cancer.
What makes the movie so good for Cancers is that they can see themselves in all the characters, even the one who betrays the other.
Drama
Passengers (2016)
This film, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, is about a situation in which a colony of people travels through space in suspended animation during a journey of more than 100 years.
Unfortunately, a member of the colony is released from his group 90 years before they arrive. What the rest of the colony members don’t know is that the ship is in danger, and the dramatic story unfolds as the lonely, awake traveler is confronted with his dire situation.
Why cancer will love it
The story is tightly focused on the two main characters and a construction problem that must be solved before everyone else dies. The deep range of emotions, well acted through focused stories, makes this a drama that Cancer can sink his or her emotional teeth into.
The issues of loneliness, companionship and responsibility are central to the story. Perfect for a Cancer viewer.
Action
Gladiator (2000)
Starring Russell Crowe, the synopsis on IMDB reads: “A former Roman general seeks revenge on the corrupt emperor who murdered his family and sent him into slavery.” In an attempt to confront the emperor who betrayed him, the once glorious general rises to power through victories as a gladiator.
A compelling epic film directed by Ridley Scott that won the Oscar for Best Picture.
Why cancer will love it
Cancer is not a sign that is averse to violence, especially when it serves the greater goal of revenge for the death of mother and child, which underlies the main character’s motivation. Duty and honor, betrayal and dishonor are themes that Cancer finds fascinating, especially when delivered with eloquence by Oscar Caliber actors and a film with lush details, charging emotions with both the story and the images.
Children
Moana (2016)
The film revolves around Moana, who goes on a quest to save her home on the island. The wiki synopsis is excellent: “The film tells the story of Moana, the strong-willed daughter of a chieftain of a Polynesian village, who is chosen by the ocean itself to reunite a mystical relic with the goddess Te Fiti.
When a plague hits her island, Moana searches for Maui, a legendary demigod, in hopes of returning the relic to Te Fiti and saving her people. The plot is original, but is inspired by Polynesian myths.”
Why cancer will love it
The film centers on a young woman and has strong themes surrounding family and the feminine divine. Cancer is the sign that rules the 4e House of Family and the Moon, the astronomical ruler of Cancer, is usually associated with the mother.
The key themes of responsibility and caring, which drive the character, will maintain Cancer’s interest, as will the development of Moana’s leadership skills. After all, Cancer is a cardinal sign, just like Aries, Capricorn and Libra.
Science fiction
Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013)
The IMDB synopsis states: “After the crew of the Enterprise uncovers an unstoppable force of terror within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt into a warzone world to capture a one-man weapon of mass destruction.” This film is the second part of the latest series of Star Trek films produced by Paramount Pictures. Chris Pine returns as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Mr. Spock.
Why cancer will love it
The theme of family is central to this second part, giving depth to both the villains and the heroes. It’s not that Cancer won’t appreciate the amazing special effects; they’ll just focus more on the interpersonal dynamics that drive the characters to relate and be motivated.
Benedict Cumberbatch delivers a standout performance as Kahn, a particularly Cancer villain pitted against a definitive Aries hero in Kirk.
Mystery
The Illusionist (2006)
Starring Edward Norton, Jessica Biel and Paul Giamatti. The IMDB synopsis reads: “In turn-of-the-century Vienna, a magician uses his abilities to secure the love of a woman far above his social status.” Norton plays Eisenheim, the peasant furniture maker turned magician, and Biel plays Sophie, the Duchess von Teschen. They meet as children and fall in love as young adults, but their different positions in life keep them apart.
Why cancer will love it.
The theme of ‘do anything and everything for love’ will resonate with the romantic Cancer. Cancer is also a sign that appreciates historical dramas in which power is often shown more nakedly, deepening the struggle to survive and overcome. A lifelong love that started as an innocent friendship, grew into true love and patiently overcame overwhelming adversity is an ideal story for a Cancer.
