We often use the Tarot to explain great truths, delve into our wildest curiosities… and of course, explain our true feelings about someone or something else.
But what about the other side?
Have you ever wondered, “What do they think about it? me?” Your relationship with someone else (whether romantic, platonic, or something else entirely) is a two-way street, and empathizing with another point of view can give you a unique perspective on the situation at hand.
But instead of diving into someone’s true thoughts and feelings unannounced, you can instead use Tarot to deepen your relationship with someone. both sides of the situation with your Tarot deck as a reliable mediator.
A tarot with 6 cards to express true feelings
This Tarot spread can help you figure out if your intentions for a relationship align with someone else’s, as well as understand how your feelings and desires generally overlap.
Think in advance of someone else you would like to explore a connection with and ask your Tarot deck to highlight the feelings that will best help you continue the relationship productively.
Then lay out your cards this way:
- What are my true intentions with the connection?
- What are their true intentions for the connection?
- What do I want from the connection?
- What do they want from the connection?
- Where are we most aligned in our feelings?
- Where are we least aligned in our feelings?
Need some more pointers on what to do from here? Let’s look at an example of what the distribution might look like in practice.
Example of tarot spread
1. What are my true intentions for the connection? — 7 of Cups
There may be many options and courses of action that you want to take with this connection. You may want to pursue something seriously one day and then think a more casual approach makes sense the next.
In other words, the 7 of Cups can be interpreted as potentially unclear intentions or, at best, more open-minded intentions about what the connection could become.
2. What are their true intentions for the connection? – Knight of Pentacles
Practical, level-headed and slow to make moves, the Knight of Pentacles card indicates that the other person may want to move at a more daily pace. They like to take things one day at a time and appreciate the smaller pieces of progress that others might otherwise overlook in the name of the big picture.
These intentions are positive and pragmatic, but sometimes harder to notice if your vision of affection is more dramatic or grand.
3. What do I want from the connection? – 8 of Pentacles
You are open to hard work and building a connection from the ground up. The 8 of Pentacles is stable and productive, and in the context of a relationship would indicate that you are open to overcoming obstacles as these involve a practical approach.
Fortunately, this would fit in well with the Knight of Pentacles from before, as their intentions align with what you’re looking for in someone else.
4. What do they want from the connection? – 2 cups
Fun, light and sweet, the 2 of Cups is always a treat! This would indicate that the other person wants a happy, compassionate, and loving exchange.
This other person wants love and all the blessings that connection can bring. Although their intentions seem more grounded and practical than those of the previous Knight of Pentacles, this card supports the fact that their feelings are also true and more in line with romance.
5. Where are we most aligned in our feelings? – The Hierophant
Serious and traditional, the Hierophant shows that you may be aligned in your values and more practical worldviews.
Furthermore, because the Hierophant is the fusion between the invisible (emotions, spirituality, etc.) and the practical and can therefore signify things like contracts and institutions, this can be a good sign for a marriage or any long-term commitments.
6. Where are we least aligned in our feelings? – The magician
While you may share similar worldviews and desires, as seen with The Hierophant, the Magician’s card may instead indicate that you have different ways of pursuing what you want.
The Magician shows us how to create and manifest, and even with similar end goals you can still pursue similar things with different techniques and methods. This part of the distribution can help highlight disagreements or difficulties, but is not necessarily the “end all be all” of the connection.
Now you know what to work on and pay attention to, and how to compromise using the things you have in common as a starting point!
Final advice to further your tarot reading
If you’re open to hearing another side of the story, asking your Tarot deck how your feelings align with someone else’s will be a more fruitful experience.
Ultimately, everyone has different points of view and experiences connections and relationships differently. When we approach a reading with an open heart and mind and are ready to perceive different perspectives with love and compassion, our Tarot readings will flourish too!
While it can be difficult to approach readings on such deep-seated emotions and matters of the heart objectively, sometimes the key is compassion and knowing that your intuition will lead you where it needs to go – just like with any other reading!
