Color is of primary importance in magical work and is one of the most profound ways of focusing energy on the manifestation of our desires.
Colors are keys that instantly attune us to different forces of the Cosmos. Colors are indeed these forces, manifesting in a form of vibration that we register through the eyes; yet these forces also manifest as symbols, sounds, smells, tastes, concepts, consciousness, and feelings. We can experience these primordial threads of power in many ways, but color is one of the most direct.
Faces of the Deity
The association of certain colors with certain gods, planets, symbols or plants is not accidental, arbitrary or culturally constructed. These color assignment systems are based on matches that are real in an original, essential sense. Colors reflect the nature of actual aspects of the universe and of a human being’s soul.
Colors are living keys to the fundamental energy centers of the Cosmos, as well as to the fundamental energy centers of the body. Each of these energy centers in the body controls some of our vital organs, and color can therefore be used to stimulate or activate physical processes.
When we look at a particular color, whether we realize it or not, we are activating and enlivening a correlating force within our own psyche, setting in motion chains of activity on subtle planes. Colors, especially when consciously meditated on, can instantly bring about a state of being that can take hours of deliberate effort to build through words or emotional appeal. We have many expressions that indicate that we are subconsciously aware of these attributions, such as “I felt down” or “I got so angry I saw red.” Each color is like a gateway to a certain dimension, with its own emotional and energetic climate.
This is a fact well known to advertising agents and PR experts, who know which colors attract, excite, calm, enrage, uplift, inspire, aggravate and repel. Similarly, architects and designers know what color of paint to cover the walls of a particular institution; For example, baby blue is often painted in prisons in an effort to maintain calm and quell violence.
Speak in color
Magicians take these unconscious associations a step further by consciously developing these relationships more fully through meditation. Color scales are tuning devices where each color is visualized in combination with its associated philosophical concept, attributes and musical note.
For example, the vibration of Red is beneficial to the functions of self-awareness, that is, ordinary waking consciousness and the rational mind. It is associated with fire and heat.
The yellow ray, on the other hand, induces states of mind and body that are conducive to superconscious activity – that is, the Higher Self and the spiritual dimensions of thought. It is associated with air and light.
The blue vibration facilitates the use of unconscious powers. It is associated with water and cold.
Red is associated with the musical note C. If you wanted to build the association, you would flood the mind with red so that it fills the inner eye, then hum or hit the note ‘C’. While an instrument may be used initially, one is eventually able to hum the note accurately without the aid of an instrument. In fact, wherever a person encounters the color Red, on some level they will also subtly “hear” the note C in their mind.
It may seem like a matter of little importance to imagine, color and hum a sound, but these simple practices have far-reaching consequences, and one who masters these matters becomes the repository of immense cosmic power. Building this skill means you begin to be able to think in the symbolic language in which the universe itself thinks.
When you can think in the language of the Universe, you can receive more thought vibrations that it continuously sends out to you. Colors and tones convey messages, and as you learn this language, you will increasingly register what these messages say.
When you use the correlations of color and sound, you also set powerful cosmic activities in motion. Again, these are not “just” colors, but actual living vibrational forces operating in many octaves of the unseen. Mages and manifestors use color to quickly and powerfully summon the powers most relevant to their objectives. When the association has taken root in the subconscious, one can quickly evoke a quality such as ‘strength’, ‘devotion’, ‘abundance’, ‘enlightenment’, ‘nurturing’, ‘stability’ etc. simply by imagining the color , without the need for a long, carefully written prayer. One can colorize one’s visualizations with appropriate tones so that certain essential properties are ‘written’ into the visualization without having to specify them.
Healing vibrations
Colors can also be evoked in this way in normal, ordinary life. When we are in a dangerous situation, such as heavy traffic or on a dark street late at night, we can invoke the protective energy of purple and infuse it into our aura, surrounding ourselves with the protective force field. When we need courage for a public speech, or energy for an athletic event, we can surround ourselves with a vital red orb.
The power of color is the basis of crystal healing therapies. Crystal healing works by shining reflected rays of light from a colored crystal into the patient’s subtle body or aura.
The aura is a system of magnetic tensions and is the framework in which every cell of the physical body is built. It is the etheric body or “spirit” of a cell that exerts the well-known selective power of cell metabolism—not, as modern medicine would argue, the physical cell itself.
Light, both visible and invisible, is a powerful physical therapeutic agent, for the magnetic field of the aura responds to the transmission of the rays. Colored light can achieve remarkable effects, but the source of the coloration is paramount. It has little effect to pass white light through blue glass, because this is not blue light but light that is colored blue.
The best way to get a colored beam is through reflected light. White light reflected from a crystal that is blue in nature will be an active beam of blue energy. When sunlight is focused through a crystal, especially a powerful gem like a ruby, the most amazing changes in the energetic matrix of the human body can be achieved.
