The mystery surrounding the unidentified flying object spotted over Imphal airport continues, temporarily closing airspace and suspending flights for over three hours, reports indiatimes.com.
According to a source from the Airports Authority of India, the object disappeared from the sky after sunset and has not reappeared since.
A source at the Airports Authority of India said the object, which disappeared from the sky after sunset, had not reappeared and the IAF was investigating. Some reports indicated it may have been a drone, but defense officials and AAI have not confirmed this.
“It was suspected that it was a drone or a balloon. But the IAF has not shared any investigation details with us. It can be submitted directly to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation,” said an official from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal.
Three outbound flights were stopped at Imphal airport during the airspace closure time, while two flights, which were bound for Imphal, were diverted to Guwahati and Kolkata respectively.
A source said the size of the object was so small that airport radar could not detect any signal from it.
