The Canadian government’s chief scientific adviser says her office will release a public UFO report in early fall ctvnews.ca.
Mona Nemer also said in a speech to lawmakers in Ottawa last week that more can be done to make UFO information available to Canadians.
“I think there is room for improvement in terms of collecting, reporting the information and making it available to researchers and the public,” Nemer told Parliament’s science and research committee.
“I can understand that some of them are, you know, important to national security, but I believe that generally you can make the information public – and I think that’s the best way to mitigate conspiracy theories and disinformation.”
In March 2023, CTVNews.ca revealed the existence of the agency’s Sky Canada Project, the first known official Canadian UFO study in nearly 30 years.
“We should be on track to release the report in late summer, early fall,” Nemer said Tuesday. “I think our report will be quite fascinating historically, so stay tuned.”
“The enthusiasm and responses were uneven,” Nemer revealed. “Sometimes the information is more complete or, you know, more cryptic than we would like. Therefore, in some cases I will be contacting the Deputy Ministers directly to ensure that we have the information we need. ”
The Sky Canada Project now even has its own web page describing its mission.
“The Sky Canada Project was launched in the fall of 2022 to study how Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) reports from the public are managed in Canada and to recommend improvements,” it explains. “The Sky Canada Project supports citizen science and aims to facilitate the collection of observations that document rare natural phenomena.”
Nemer, a cardiovascular scientist and former vice president of research at the University of Ottawa, has held her current position since its founding in 2017.
“I can tell you that we are taking this seriously,” Nemer told lawmakers. “We are being very thorough about this and making sure our recommendations are based on the best evidence and interactions we have had.”
