March 10 brings us a New Moon in Pisces. This is a lunation that calls for uninhibited and pragmatic dreaming. If that sounds impossible, all we need to do is spend some time in the natural world. Nature is both wild and grounded. It perseveres and experiments without fear of failure. It grows anyway and wherever it can. It plods on. Despite its absolute neglect and degradation by capitalism, nature is doing everything it can to flourish and become. It doesn’t get its feelings hurt, get discouraged, take things personally, or need a self-esteem boost to do its job. It doesn’t feel self-pity when it’s forced out of its comfort zone, when it needs things to be perfect before it starts, or when it gets overwhelmed thinking about how far to go. It doesn’t depend on feeling safe, or accepted, or happy to exist. Nature never asks for permission; it unfolds mercilessly.
I want us to do the same.
This New Moon takes place in dreamy Pisces, between hard-working Saturn and wonderfully delusional Neptune. But it will also get help from (making a sextile for) growth-promoting Jupiter, and (more accurately) wild and unruly Uranus.
All this to say that we would be missing out if we didn’t use this moment to take our wildest dreams seriously.
Just a few hours before the New Moon on March 9, Mars makes a disruptive square to Uranus. This is shockwave astrology creating a wake-up call. I hope it reminds us that nothing in life can be taken for granted, let alone assumed – but I also hope it’s not too hard on us. There are inordinate amounts of cruelty all over the world and I pray that we can learn these life lessons in other ways.
After the New Moon, on March 11, Venus slips into the warm waters of Pisces and offers us three and a half weeks of its charms. This transit is a kind of amulet that places comfort for the weary and compassion at the center of exchanges – that is, if we choose to embody its principles. It is also an invitation to seek ultimate pleasure, imbued with sweetness – a veritable flood of pleasures. I hope and pray that we can learn in these gentler ways as well.
But/and/also a friendly reminder: as of March 19th we will be thrown into eclipse season. The first solar eclipse will occur on March 25 and the second on April 8, but we can consider the entire time of Sol in Aries (March 19 – April 19) as the eclipse season, since it will be there during the two events. Eclipse season is generally a time when something that is in the shadows is revealed. It is a time of literal or metaphorical surges and energetic instability, and usually reflects a turning point in world and/or personal events. Eclipses always arrive in pairs, happening every six months, meaning the last eclipse season was in October 2023. This next round will comment on what happened next. May it bring swift and lasting justice, real change and a dismantling of all that is systematically violent.
This week’s New Moon is therefore the final lunation before the upcoming eclipses. I encourage us to use this moment to ground ourselves, rest when possible, and remember the agency and power we have – and how we can use it.
As an offering for this New Moon in Pisces, I wanted to give you the following affirmations to work with. They are a return to the longer texts I wrote for you every new moon. Please read for your rising, sun and moon signs, and if you are so inclined, you can put them all together to see what the through line is.
As always, take what you like and leave the rest.
Ram
I’ll take any breaks on their offer. I let myself relax. I know that growth is impossible if I don’t prioritize digesting, absorbing, and integrating everything I’ve learned. I know this moment of recalibration will not last long, so I will enjoy it, welcome it and rejoice in it. I know that sometimes it’s hard to quit, that I can convince myself to keep running on empty and burn all the ends of my candle, but that doesn’t benefit me in the long run. Ultimately, I want my actions to contribute to a life where I feel loved.
Taurus
I recognize collective daydreaming as a powerful tool for remaking the world. I gather with those who spark my imagination, awaken my creativity, and kick my hope into high gear. I love myself enough to say “no thank you” to all the invitations that exhaust me. I scan the crowd for those ready to join me in radically reclaiming their agency and their dreams.
Twin
What the world does with my offering is not up to me. It is none of my business how loved, accepted or applauded my contributions will be. My only concern is that I stay true to my talents, that I answer what calls me, and that I never betray the truth I am meant to convey. My deepest desire is that when I leave this life, I will know that I have left the best of myself behind me. If I can achieve that, I have managed to create an otherworldly amount of success.
Cancer
With this New Moon, I’m focusing on what will give me long-term satisfaction. The goals I have are not a list of achievements, but rather a way I want to feel. I know it’s not reasonable to expect inspiration every day, but my muses are more likely to find me if I practice connecting with them. Following a path or a routine doesn’t mean I have to do it forever; it just means that I have faith that it will get me to whatever the next part of my journey will be.
Lion
I make room for employees who know how to build bridges, weave new patterns and sing the praises of everything that comes to their aid. I want to join forces with those who focus on what is possible, while everyone knows that they are responsible for the energy they bring into the room. Healing, growth, and joy are all the more likely when I surround myself with people who put their own interests first.
Virgin
I am committed to those who focus on reciprocity. I know I can work in circles most of the time, but my deepest desire is to be able to relax in partnerships of equal ebb and flow. I am committed to the exchanges in my life that effectively provide space for everyone’s humanity, needs and natural talents. Receiving the support my loved ones provide is a powerful way to serve my relationships.
Scale
What I do routinely shapes my life in one direction or another. Like waves crashing against rocks, my daily efforts ultimately shape my world. I take a moment to see if the lines, curves, and hollows of my actions make me feel inspired, or if there are new rhythms I need to roll out, other rituals to experiment with, or more time to carve out of my schedule .
Scorpion
There is no greater pleasure than enjoying the time I have. It’s not always easy, it’s not always simple, but I promise to be aware of the places of presence I can find. I’m dedicating this week to being radically aware of what delights me. I gather the kittens of my worried mind so that I can focus on the beauty of every creative act in which I participate. And I am grateful for every moment I am able to do so.
Archer
I owe it to myself to build my life on a foundation of self-care. I say no to what demoralizes me and yes to what stimulates my growth. I welcome all joy, friendship and sweetness that appears at my door. I refuse empty promises that knock. Anything that is not of good will, I will return to sender. Anyone who is selfish will see a “Do Not Disturb” sign. I know the only way to cultivate what I want more of is to nourish it, water it, and prioritize it.
Ibex
I make lounging a ritual. Naps, meditations and moments in silence connect me to everything in my life that is magical. I am a completely different person when I am well fed, rested and exercised. I am so much more ready, willing and able to serve this world when I have taken a moment to remember who I am and what my needs are. I am so much more effective when I say no to what is burning me out, overwhelming my system, or poisoning my water. With this New Moon, I center these truths and commit to the simplest and most efficient ways to rework my days.
Aquarius
I renew my commitment to anything that helps me bring my gifts into the world. I cut ties with anything that tries to convince me to stay small, quiet, or comfortable. I don’t want security if it comes at the expense of actual livelihood. I don’t want to be complacent when I could be creating. I don’t want to take for granted the talents I have been given, so I redouble my allegiance to whatever I can praise, be grateful for, and share.
Fishing
I can start again. I can make a new choice. I get to give myself the space I need, the breathing room I need, and the ability to say, “Can I contact you about that?” I’m not allowed to know, try something on for size and experiment. The one thing I’m no longer allowed to do is sacrifice myself for something or someone.
Many blessings at the New Moon,
Never miss a memo again.
