Belief in past lives is not a new concept, but it is receiving increasing scientific and psychological attention. Slowly, the idea that your presence on Earth has occurred in past lives and will occur in future lives is becoming increasingly prevalent in the modern worldview, largely due to the past life regression hypnosis techniques developed by Dr. Michael Newton.
Many of the patterns and relationships in our lives that are difficult to understand in a single lifetime of experience often reflect past lives in choices and connections in which we must resolve a karmic lesson. This article explores karmic lessons as echoes from our past lives.
A greater theory of life and death
Many different theories and beliefs exist about life after death, and most of them claim that there is one life and one afterlife. Atheism reduces everything to just one life. But most major religions claim that you have a life and an afterlife. The afterlife is usually divided into two or three realms. In the two-kingdom system, there is eternal punishment or eternal paradise. In the three-realm system there is eternal punishment, eternal paradise and purgatory (the intermediate place).
Reincarnation proposes that the spiritual life and the incarnate life dance back and forth until a soul learns all the lessons it needs to learn, at which point it can enter Nirvana or return to the source. The time it takes to reach Nirvana can take thousands and thousands of lifetimes. Anyway, in the theory of reincarnation, you’ve been here before and after you die, you take some time to think, and then you come back, as you’ve done who knows how many times before.
Every time you come back, you forget your past life. This process makes sense because it would be overwhelming to have to remember every life: glorious, boring and traumatic. But even without the clear memory of your past life, you often find echoes that surface in a way that indicates a lesson for this life.
You might visit a part of the world you’ve never been to, only to find that you know your way around the city as if you were a local who has lived there all your life. You may meet someone from a radically different culture, but you are certain that you ‘know’ that person and it is clear that he or she knows you. You may have an “irrational fear” that is not related to this life, because you have no traumatic event to which you can attach the fear (of heights or the ocean or a person in your life).
Wherever you find it difficult or impossible to explain a talent, such as picking up a musical instrument you have never played and discovering that, very quickly, beyond reasonable expectations, you can learn and even master the instrument. All such circumstances can easily be explained by a past life regression into another life in which a specific event occurred that is related to the current concern, person, talent or issue.
Some personal examples
I did eight past life regressions and one between life session, and each session addressed an important issue or relationship in my current life. I have also done a lot of personal work exploring past lives myself through muscle testing and meditation. My story on earth is going in the right direction and I am convinced that I will achieve considerable returns in the future. I have resolved some important karmas, while I have also created some unfortunate karmas in this lifetime that will take several future lifetimes to heal.
Die young, live to grow old
When I turned forty, I had the strangest feeling of not feeling normal, like I was out of step with a known pattern. I decided to do a past life regression with a colleague of mine who is a hypnotherapist and what we discovered in the first part of the session is that I have not lived past the age of 40 in most of my past lives. In fact, I had a pattern of dying violently, mainly because of my role as someone who angers the powers that be. Once a rebel, always a rebel.
In the second part of the session we discovered that I have had some very long lives, not many compared to my short, but still several. In this particular session I landed and explored a life in China, living in a small village in a mountain pass used by traveling armies to wage war against each other. I happened to be a woman who in time became a counselor to the leaders of the armies passing through.
In that life I lived into my late nineties and during the regression it became clear that this life would have to be one of my longer ones again. I don’t know if I’ll live to be ninety, but I’m already well over forty. And interestingly enough, in this life I work as a spiritual advisor, consulting with people from all over the world.
My happy life with my father
In another session with another practitioner I finally went down to 15e Century Italy and its decline began with me as a young man whose father had achieved great success with a vineyard. I had no interest in the farm, but rather was interested in making clocks. Just like this life, the soul of the man who was my father chose then to be my father in this life.
And in this life, my father built a very successful career as a general contractor and I could have easily followed in his business footsteps, but just like in the previous life, I didn’t. In that life and this, my father supported my dreams and did not expect me to continue his. We enjoyed an easy relationship, then and in this incarnation. And it turned out to be another long life. His soul and my soul once again chose to enjoy the comfort of a positive father-son relationship.
Addressing karmic lessons
Every strong pattern in your life is potentially a karmic lesson that you must address, appreciate and understand. If you want to know if the pattern or person is an echo of the past, make an appointment to have a past life regression done and find out.
