Leonora Piper
One of the most famous media of all time was Leonora Piper. Leonora was born in 1857 and became known worldwide for her claimed ability to communicate with spirits during trance states. Trance mediums enter a deeply relaxed or changed mental state, which often appear to be asleep or unconscious, so that spirits can supposedly speak through them. Leonora was extensively tested by scientists and researchers who had difficulty explaining her remarkable skills.

Gladys Osborne Leonard

Gladys Osborne Leonard, born in 1882, was another important British medium. Known for her trance sessions and automatic writing – a practice in which messages are said by spirits that check the hand of a medium – Gladys was consulted by relatives families after the First World War, who were desperate to communicate with lovers they had lost. She became famous to accurately convey personal data that she could not have known on ordinary resources.
Doris Stokes
Finally, Doris Stokes, a British spiritist medium was born in 1920, enormously popular in the 1970s and 80s. Doris claimed that she could communicate with deceased loved ones and exercised large public demonstrations, spending comforting messages from spirits to the public. Although skeptics argued that she used psychological techniques to create convincing messages, her public performance unmistakably influenced the perception of spiritual mediumship.
Jeane Dixon

In the 20th century, Jeane Dixon received widespread attention as a clairvoyant in America. Jeane was born in 1904 and predicted the murder of US President John F. Kennedy in 1963, which brought her global recognition. Although not all her predictions came true, her influence and popularity could not be denied, which significantly influenced the interest of the audience in psychological phenomena.
Helen Duncan

Known as the last person to be locked up under the Witchcraft Act of 1735 in Great Britain. She gained fame for her materializing sandant, in which she claimed that spirits appeared physically due to a substance called ectoplasma. While some saw her as real, she was famous of fraud and emphasized continuous debates between believers and skeptics.
