We are all psychic, but to varying degrees. Even psychic abilities face logical limitations; some people are just more sensitive, more sensitive in different ways, and more talented than others. Anyone can run, but some people run faster, longer, and with more grace than others. With training you can improve and maximize the psychic skills you have, just as you improve your speed, endurance and grace as a runner.
Sometimes psychic abilities remain dormant until a specific triggering moment, such as a near-death experience, or are discovered through concentrated efforts in meditation and mindfulness. There is also a wide range of talents, from simple intuition to channeling other entities to communicating with animals and so on.
This article is about psychic skills, identifying them and developing them.
Many skills and different degrees
As part of my practice, I have developed an intuitive checklist that I go through with interested clients who want to learn about various aspects of their spiritual journey, including but not limited to psychic abilities. The checklist includes spirit guides, meditation practices, spiritual tools, and psychic abilities. Answers are determined using applied kinesiology (muscle testing).
The checklist attempts to identify not only specific answers, but also the usefulness and extent of the skill. The test is intended to go beyond just identifying a skill or tool, but also to determine whether it is a skill or tool that you should use or if you should have someone else do it.
In other words, you get a yes to working with tarot cards, but a no to using them for yourself. Or you might get a yes to tarot cards and prompts to use them for yourself and as a reader for other people. Below are the skills I test for during the session:
Animal communication |
Astral projection |
Astral Travel (other dimensions) |
Automatic writing |
Automatic drawing |
Bibliomancy |
Clairaudience |
Clairvoyance/precognition |
Dowsing |
Dream trips |
Energy healing (Reiki) |
Healing touch |
Lucid dreams |
Plant communication |
Psychometry (reading objects) |
Remote viewing |
Shout |
Seeing auras |
Synchronicity awareness |
Telekinesis |
Telepathy |
Walking with spiritual guides |
Some of these may be well known and some may be less known, such as bibliomancy, which uses a text to receive messages. I do this practice and prefer to work with a Websters Collegiate dictionary. Telekinesis is something that I interpret differently than its most obvious application. One of my all-time favorite T-shirts even says, “If you believe in telekinesis, raise my hand.”
Slightly more subtle: telekinesis is the ability to move something towards or away from you. Perhaps you have had the experience that when you concentrated, an animal could come to you or someone from far away could come into your life. Likewise, with focused effort, you can prevent people from coming into contact with you or coming back into your life if you’ve asked them to leave.
Some people attract money, while others repel it. If there is a pattern or connection between the thought and the outcome in a consistent way, this would be a telekinetic event.
Degree of competence
As with all skills and abilities, there are varying degrees of talent and quality. One remote viewer may only be able to operate at short distances and with “fuzzy” reception, while another viewer may be able to see over long distances with crystal clear “vision”. The mix can also be faint at far distances or clear up close.
The first step is to try to identify the asset and then determine how strong or weak it may be. One person may be able to walk with ghosts, but only with those closest to or directly connected to him or her, while another person may be able to walk with his or her ghosts, my ghosts and everyone’s ghosts that they encounter in the supermarket store.
Developing the ability
If you discover that you have a skill, and the degree of strength, you can find ways to develop it if you wish. Development can be done with the help of practical tests, meditation and with the help of tools such as crystals, tarot cards, sound, and so on.
Perhaps one of the best reference books to explore is Developing Your Psychic Skills by Enid Hoffman. From the back of her book:
This is an opportunity to expand your consciousness beyond your physical senses, to see behind the curtains of time and space. Psychic skills are as natural to humans as walking and talking, and are much easier to learn. Here are simple clues and the inside secrets from renowned teacher and author Enid Hoffman.
Beyond:
Develop Your Psychic Skills gives you a broad overview of the entire field of paranormal experiences. The exercises and exercises given in the book are fun and easy to perform. Use them to strengthen and focus your own natural abilities and transform them into precise, coordinated skills.
The chapters include altered states of consciousness, how and what we perceive, training your projective skills, beliefs and your psychic development, and so on. She recommends individual and group exercises throughout the book and covers topics ranging from perceiving people and things to pendulum work, to healing and past life recall.
In her closing chapter she writes: “This book is intended to place you in the position of authority and responsibility for your own life. By developing your psychic skills you will be able to gather information from a wider source, and you will develop your discriminatory ability to investigate the information received…” (175).
As with any skill or ability, it takes study, practice and application to develop and maximize talent. By opening yourself up through meditation, guided muscle testing, or guided hypnosis, you may discover a hidden talent or rediscover a talent that has been long suppressed. Now more than ever, our world is filled with the most extensive and largest source of psychic energy in known history; it would be wise to identify any talents you have and work to improve them.
