What is a Full Moon?
We experience a Full Moon when the transiting (moving) Sun and Moon are in exact opposite positions in the zodiac, an aspect called an opposition. The Sun and Moon are celestial bodies and part of the Primordial Triad (along with your Rising sign), so they are the building blocks of who we are.
The sun shines light and brings attention and focus while traveling. The Sun also rules our true selves, who we really are, without a mask. The sun is very personal.
The moon provides emotional focus during transit. The moon rules our emotions, how we express what we feel and exactly what we feel.
Opposites are considered challenging aspects, causing the two planets or bodies to oppose each other. There is a bit of a war with the two fighting for attention and power. So, Full Moons put the sun and moon opposite each other.
This means that we are generally more sensitive to Full Moons. Emotions are extremely heightened with the Moon; we take everything personally with the sun. Everything has a stronger impact on us with Full Moons.
Your natal moon sign can be strengthened under Full Moons as this is the way you naturally express what you feel. However, we are affected by the sign of the Full Moon itself, which can change some of our interactions and emotional responses.
We have about one Full moon per month because they occur approximately every four weeks, so we end up with 12 – 13 Full Moons per year. They occur in the zodiac sign in which the Moon is located, which is exactly opposite to the sign in which the Sun is currently located.

When is a Full Moon strong for you?
The strongest Full Moons are usually Full Moons that occur in your own Sun sign, Moon sign or Rising sign. As mentioned, this trio is the Primal Triad, astrologically the basic building blocks for yourself, so Full Moons in these signs are very personal and difficult to escape.
The closer the Full Moon is to actually connecting these positions (i.e. aligning with them), the stronger it can be, and you may be extra sensitive, easily triggered, and need to be gentle with yourself.
Out there, Full Moons can be strong if they are in the same sign as one of your natal planets, and they will be specifically strong for that planet and whatever it rules. You can be extra alert to whatever rules it and possibly experience developments.
