Mysterious objects were seen in the Brazilian sky, at an altitude of 90 meters and traveling at a speed of 18,500 km per hour. They were chased by fighter jets, which became known as the “Night of the UFOs”.
Five pilots had stated that they had seen these 21 UFOs appear and disappear, and more on the ground. Air force chiefs confirmed there was “no explanation” for such an incident.
This incident will be part of a hearing in the Brazilian Senate on UFOs.
THE NIGHT OF THE UFOS
The event lasted several hours and was witnessed by hundreds of people, including the military, who had seen unexplained objects moving at high speed.
The fighter pilots saw objects that did not appear on their radar and the objects seemed to be playing a game of cat and mouse with them.
The first unusual messages were seen by Brazilian Air Force air traffic controller Sergeant Sergio Mota da Silva on the evening of May 19, 1986.
He saw a light shining from the sky from the control tower of the airport near Sao Paulo. He reported that it was not going up or down, just standing in the air.
Sergio asked air traffic controllers at Sao Paolo International Airport if they saw any planes flying towards his airport, but received a negative response.
He then dimmed the lights on the runway, forcing the objects toward the control tower. As soon as he turned up the brightness, the UFOs moved away.
Sergio wasn’t sure if they were trying to communicate with him, but all he knew was that they were intelligent beings.
Around 8 p.m., 2,000 Air Force training cadets saw the same lights.
An hour later, an Embraer pilot saw and reported objects in the sky as soon as he landed at the same airport. The same lights were also spotted on two passenger flights, including one traveling domestically.
The Air Force took action and used its jets to intercept these objects, but that was not so easy because they themselves became disoriented by what was happening.
The pilots reported that they sometimes had visual contact with the named targets, but their radars did not register anything. Sometimes the radars picked up the objects, but then the pilots couldn’t see them.
JETS WERE DEployed TO INTERCEPT THESE UFOS
Initially, three aircraft were sent, including a Mirage F-103. It took off around 11:00 PM, piloted by Captain Armindo Sousa Viriato.
His powerful jet reached speeds of 1,000 miles per hour, but he failed to catch up as the UFO accelerated to speeds of around 11,500 miles per hour or more.
He reported that he had never heard of airplanes capable of such speed.
An F-5E was previously deployed for this purpose, piloted by Lieutenant Kleber Caldas Marinho. He reported that the object stopped moving towards him and started climbing higher. He continued to track his target until about 30,000 feet, at which point he lost radar contact and was left with only images.
Brazilian UFO researcher Ademar José Gevaerd reported that he believes alien technology was far superior to theirs and was on display that evening.
These UFOs were not trying to attack them, but were playing a cat and mouse game with them.
This incident was also observed from the ground when photographer Adenir Britto saw the objects and started photographing them.
He was amazed and said it was a unique experience in his career. He’s never seen anything like it. He didn’t care about UFOs until that fateful night and now has a different opinion. He believes he was privileged to photograph and witness this incident.
Two Air Force officers, along with James J. Hurtak, an American UFO researcher, showed up at the newspaper a month later and demanded that the editor show them the negatives of the photos. They wanted them so they could be analyzed by NASA, but they’ve never been there since.
THE NIGHT OF THE UFOS RECEIVES WIDESPREAD DESCRIPTION
This incident filtered through to the media and received a lot of attention.
Brigadier General Octávio Júlio Moreira Lima was forced to hold an unprecedented press conference where the pilots described what had really happened.
One said he was warned by ground control that there were several contacts ahead of him, about 20 miles away. He was also warned that contacts were also approaching him from behind and as he dove, the contacts began to climb.
Ground controllers told another pilot that 13 flying objects were chasing him, 6 on one side and 7 on the other.
Although so much happened, Octávio Moreira Lima had no explanation for it.
A 2009 aerial report on the ‘Night of the UFOs’ stated that they believed this incident was solid and reflected intelligence in some way. They deduced this from the UFO’s ability to track them and maintain a safe distance from its observers, and to fly in a specific formation.
Gary Heseltine, vice president of the International Coalition for Extraterrestrial Research, did not testify at the hearing, but reported that the investigation would relate to the “Night of the UFOs.”
He found it impressive that this entire incident lasted several hours from the first sightings and that fighter jets were launched from several airports. He added that such a sighting had to be taken seriously as it was supported by visual and audio reports.
The fighter jet pilots are trained to the highest level and you have to trust their lives to fight in a war. So why shouldn’t we trust them when they said they encountered these unidentified flying objects.
