There are a number of books available on numerology, and most of them are aimed at a general audience for fun and enjoyment. The book discussed in this article is one of the more advanced books available and is called Numerology and the Divine Triangle by Faith Javane and Dusty Bunker.
Choose the book
For this review process, I look at three important factors: the knowledge and wisdom of the author, the readability and transmission of the knowledge, and the usefulness of the book. This month’s book is aimed at advanced students and professionals in numerology.
The book
Source: Amazon
Published in 1979 by Para Research, this book is still in print and can be purchased new from Amazon. I found my copy in 2018 at a Barnes and Noble in Asheville. From the back of the book:
Finally, a truly comprehensive and authoritative text on numerology! Part I is a complete introduction to esoteric numerology. Part II contains extensive descriptions of each of the numbers 1 through 78 and, for the first time in book form, a synthesis of numerology, astrology and the Tarot. Each number is explained as personal number vibrations, as a temporary number vibration, in terms of its astrological correspondence and in terms of its Tarot symbolism. Each of the Tarot cards is illustrated. Numerology and the Divine Triangle is the book against which all books on the subject will be compared from now on.
The book is 268 pages long and contains: a foreword by Faith Javane, and one by Dusty Bunker, an introduction, two parts and an appendix. Part 1 consists of seven sections entitled:
- Esoteric numerology
- Your personal numbers and personal years
- God measures
- The divine triangle
- More with numbers
- The Life of Edgar Cayce
- Biblical symbolism
Part 2 explains the demarcation of double digits and consists of five sections entitled:
- The Major Arcana
- The wands
- The cups
- The swords
- The Pentacles
Essential ideas in the book
At the beginning of the section on Esoteric Numerology the authors state:
Numbers themselves represent universal principles by which all things evolve and continue to grow in a cyclical manner. The numbers 1 to 9 symbolize the phases an idea must go through before it becomes reality. All manifestation is the result of these nine stages.
Esoteric numerology is the art and science of understanding the spiritual meaning and orderly progression of all manifestations. Every word or name vibrates into a number and every number has its inner meaning. When the letter and number code are properly understood and applied, we come into a direct and intimate relationship with the underlying intelligence of the universe. (8)
In our personal numerology, the two most important numbers are the delineation of our date of birth (mm/dd/yyyy), which is our life lesson number, and the name of our full birth certificate, known as our Path of Destiny Number. These two numbers inform all of our relationships with all the other numbers we have in our lives or encounter as we travel through the world.
In Part 2 of Part 1, Your Personal Numbers and Personal Years, the authors explain the life lesson numbers 1 through 9, and the master numbers 11 through 44. In my case, my life lesson number is 4:
You need to build a solid foundation on which to base your life. This requires a well-ordered system of behavior and morality. Perhaps you want to achieve concrete results quickly and therefore strive for patience and perseverance. Learn to face reality and base all your efforts on sound, practical reasoning. (19)
My Path of Destiny number is a 3:
You have talents that give you the choice between professions or hobbies. Your destiny is that of one who uplifts and inspires others. If you want to be a success, use your time wisely. Foster friendship among your peers by being a friend when a friend is needed. (33)
These numbers and their explanations correspond to the life I have pursued and lived. They also intersect nicely with my astrology, especially my Sun in the 6e House, Venus in Aries and Mars in Taurus. Before becoming a spiritual advisor, I taught at the university level for over 15 years and have always been concerned with seeking to “uplift and inspire others.”
The divine triangle
Section 4 of Part 1, The Divine Triangle, begins:
In this chapter we explain how to place your birth name and birth date in the Divine Triangle and how to discover the events you will experience in this life. The Pythagorean Theorem is the foundation of the Divine Triangle, and as you can see from the blueprint, his right triangle is the foundation upon which each of the squares is built.
The explanation for this technique requires reading the section and cannot be easily summarized, but here is a very brief attempt at ‘cliff notes’. On page 52 you will see a diagram of a right triangle. A square is drawn on each line of the triangle and attached to the triangle (3 squares). The outer lines of each square (not those that make up the triangle) represent an age range from birth to 81 years. Therefore, each line represents 9 years of life (1 to 9).
When you perform the calculations according to the instructions in the book, you can determine the number for each 9 years of your life. The first 27 years of my life associated with the number 5 as a core vibration and the ages from birth to 9 were influenced by the number 7, the ages from 10 to 18 by the number 8, and the ages from 19 to 27 by the number 9. The numbers happen to be consecutive for the first 27 years, but 28 to 36 were affected by the number 3 and do not follow the sequence. And the life period from 28 to 54 had a core number 1.
The Tarot and your numerology
In the last part of the book the authors use double digits up to 78/6. So in the case of my life lesson number, which totals 31/4, my tarot card is the 4 of Wands, which makes me “a natural fighter, who will fight for what I want and what I believe in.” The authors describe both a positive and a negative vibration for this energy. On the positive side, I have “determination, energy and patience.” But if the energy is negative, then I am “disorganized and living a life of struggle, discord, difficulty, and material lack.” (190)
My Path of Destiny number does not have double digits and is simply reduced to 3, which is the Empress card from the Major Arcana. On the positive side, I am “an extremely expressive person, and I should develop my ability with words and cultivate the art of conversation. I could do well if lecturerartist, lawyer, judge, authornurse, preacher, or priest‘(I’ve bolded the ones I am). In a negative sense, I would choose to “do everything in a big way… because I would be too self-indulgent, and extravagance could be my downfall.” (129).
If you really want to explore the complexity of numbers and their spiritual meaning in your life, then the statement on the back is true and this is “the book against which all books on the subject from now on will be compared.”
