Drawing Tarot cards every day can be a wonderful gift to yourself, a few quiet moments to think and consider.
For beginners, a card-a-day practice is often recommended as a way to learn the deck without feeling overwhelmed – but even as a professional tarot reader and writer, I still draw a Tarot card every morningwhere I take time to think about what my day might hold and how I can best tackle any challenges or obstacles that may arise.
Sometimes the simplest methods can be the most effective, and I’m a big believer in short readings rather than drawing dozens of cards at once.
But while a one-card reading can be great for a quick moment of reflection, a three-card reading can add nuance, provide more detailed perspectives, or identify patterns that we can highlight if you’re looking for something with a little more depth. investigate time.

The benefits of daily tarot reading
When it comes to creating and maintaining one Tarot habitMost people prefer to read at the beginning or end of their day.
Morning lectures are great for preparing for the day ahead, thinking about tasks and responsibilities, and getting emotionally organized evening lectures are best for reflection, understanding and relaxation.
Both can be incredibly useful, especially if you record your Tarot readings Instagram, diary writing, or any other method to track your card draws. By doing this, you can begin to identify patterns of cards that emerge and see the overall themes of your readings, which can be a powerful way to deepen your practice and develop a more personal relationship with your deck.
How to do a daily 3 card tarot reading
If you’d like to make a three-card reading part of your daily routine but aren’t sure which one to choose, think about what you value most about your regular readings and what kind of tarot reader you are.
Are you someone who wants your readings to prepare you for something ahead, often turning to the cards for guidance and using your readings to lay the foundation for future plans and challenges?
Then a morning lecture can be particularly motivating or useful for you in planning your day.
Or do you reach for your cards more often when you would like to think about something, delve into your own emotions or fears surrounding an event that has already occurred, or want to further understand a decision, reaction or event? In this case, an evening reading may serve you best.
Of course, many of us use the charts for both types of measurements, and that’s absolutely fine – even encouraged! But if you lean to one side or the other, try reading at that time of day first, with some consistency.
Try reading every morning or evening for a week and make notes for yourself. Notice how it feels, then try the other option and compare the experiences.
You’ll likely find one suits your needs much better, and you may surprise yourself with your preference.

What kind of spread should you use for AM & PM?
There are many different types Tarot spreads which you can use for morning and evening readings, but I find the best ones are simple and clear. I have put together two different spreads for different times of the day, leaving plenty of room for individual expression and personal preferences.
And if you find yourself fixated on a particular event or occurrence in the day ahead, or at the end of the day you’re longing for a more detailed reflection on something that happened, you can always customize these spreads to be something more specific to grab.
To help you use these spreads and demonstrate how each can provide different insights into preparing for or processing a given day, I have drawn three cards and will read them twice, first with the AM spread and then again with the PM spread.
As always, this is a sample reading and is not prepared with any particular person or situation in mind.

A tarot spread for the day ahead
Card one: General theme of the day
8 of Swords
This is typically a card that indicates that we are blind to something, that we are so focused on our narrow version of the truth or interpretation of information that we cannot see any other way forward.
The 8 of Swords is a card about the feeling of being trapped, but actually having many more options than we realize. As a card for the theme of a new day, it indicates that we should think carefully about listening to multiple perspectives and perhaps find someone else to help us find our way through a challenge or obstacle.
Clarity is essential today, so instead of giving up before even trying to get out of a difficult situation, we need to open our eyes and actually pay attention to what is happening, rather than giving in to every last fear and worry.
How can we prioritize the truth today?
Card two: Something to be aware of
Knight of Swords
In line with the messages of the first card, the Knight of Swords is a figure with decisive action and fascinating ideas. This knight is insightful, persuasive and wants to get things done. He is brave and cocky and charges forward with his sword raised.
While this is someone who is intelligent and focused, someone who is not afraid to fight for what they believe to be true, Knights always challenge us to think about how we use our element.
To consider:
- On what information do we act?
- How many perspectives have we listened to?
- Are we open to new ideas and opinions, or are we so sure we are right that we ignore dissenting voices?
This card encourages us not to get so caught up in our own vision that we overlook crucial information. Where are we inclined to move? at fast?
Card three: Advice to remember
2 of wands
The final card in our spread, the 2 of Wands, is usually tied to planning, organization, and long-term considerations for a creative endeavor.
After experiencing a surge of inspiration, it’s essential to take a moment to think about how we want to achieve it, check in with ourselves and acknowledge how much effort it will take.
Is this something we really want to pursue?
As a card of daily advice, this pip reminds us that we can decide where we put our energy, our genius and our magic.
To consider:
What do we really desire? What is our vision for the future?
As a morning reading, all three of these cards ask us to slow down, pursue the truth, and reflect on where we put our energy and intentions.
It can be difficult to navigate challenging situations, and it can sometimes be difficult to tell where the truth lies. Rather than rushing ahead and pushing past all doubts or worries, the cards want us to show patience and restraint, move at a leisurely pace, and ask questions of both others and ourselves.
Progress can be made toward our goals, but not if we don’t think about our choices and actions.
And with two cards of the take swordsit may be that communication is particularly important to take into account today.

A tarot spread for the day behind you
Now let’s examine the same three cards in the context of the PM spread layout and see how their meaning changes.
Card one: General theme of the day
8 of Swords
The overall meaning of this card does not change – but by viewing this as a reflective card rather than energy to look for, the way we work with the 8 of Swords can bring an energy of questioning.
To consider:
- Where have we been closed-minded, afraid to try something new?
- What self-limiting beliefs may have been holding us back today?
- There’s probably something beneath the surface, something that makes us uncomfortable, something that makes us question ourselves and our abilities.
- When and how did the doubt arise? What were you afraid to question, afraid to explore? How do you feel trapped, and why?
Card two: a challenge to think about
Knight of Swords
As something to take note of, this card urged us not to rush through doubts and to be open to new ideas rather than obsessively fixating on ourselves.
But as a challenge to think about, the Knight of Swords asks how your sense of confidence may have influenced your choices today.
- Was there anyone who opposed your ideas, or were there situations that left you frustrated, impatient, or disrespected?
- Think about the ways your mind, your opinions, and your perspective influence your choices.
- Have you been short-sighted and stubborn and are you sure you are right?
- How might your unwillingness or inability to hear other points of view or ideas make progress difficult?
- Is there anywhere in your day that collaboration and cooperation could have made something easier?
Card three: A lesson to continue with
2 of wands
As for advice, the 2 of Wands is a card of thoughtful growth and checking in with the self – but as a lesson, this card is one of slowing down, being thoughtful, and taking more time to plan.
- Where did you go too fast, and how can both the Knight of Swords and the 2 of Wands provide different perspectives on the motivations for your haste?
- When has moving away from exercise helped you assess what you really wanted and create a plan for success?
- How do your creative goals start to become clearer in your mind, and how can you continue to make room for more organization?
- What choices you made today felt really good, and which ones do you want to spend more time with?
As the evening progresses, these cards turn to contemplation, prompting us to notice patterns of stubbornness, narrow-mindedness, or taking time to make decisions.
Where have we seen these energies during the day? How do these ideas resonate? Where have we missed thoughtful consideration, and where do we need more space to think?
