Each astrological sign expresses itself and perceives the world in a certain way, meaning everyone will enjoy the many different genres of entertainment in some way.
In this series of articles, an example movie from six different categories is presented for each astrological sign.
The plot and characters illustrate the qualities that each character would enjoy.
Ram
Aries is the cardinal fire sign of the zodiac, so films for this sign should feature action, heroic romance, the spirit of individualism and maverick behavior. Much of American cinema, especially the action genre blockbusters where the individual saves the day, is very Aries. As long as these qualities are strongly present in a film, Aries will enjoy watching it.
Best Movies for Aries
We will focus on films that are apparently to Aries’ taste. Obviously there will be so much more, but let’s focus on the below.
Comedy
Dodgeball: a true underdog story
Starring Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller, the story follows a group of misfits who enter a dodgeball tournament in Las Vegas to prevent their beloved local gym, Average Joe’s Gymnasium, from being closed down by a corporate fitness chain, Globo Gym. Vince Vaughn, an Aries himself, plays the leader of the underdog group, while Ben Stiller plays the evil Globo Gym owner.
Why Aries will love it
Aries is a sign that likes to fight for the underdog. The comedy is physical; one of the classic lines, spoken by the wheelchair-bound coach played by Rip Torn, is “if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”
The “good guys” and “bad guys” are bizarre and over-the-top, which is sure to tickle an Aries’ funny bone. The final run-up to the tournament features a competition full of superhero-like teams of competitors in spandex costumes with hilarious names.
Drama
A history of violence
Starring Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello, the story concerns a small-town restaurant owner (Mortensen) who is thrust into the spotlight after killing two criminals and murderers who threaten customers in his restaurant. He does this with surprising skill and ruthlessness, fueling the plot that reveals him to be a former hitman who left his own criminal past behind to raise a family in a small town in America’s Midwest.
Why Aries will love it
Aries is a sign of the warrior and soldier; they will do what needs to be done. Plus, Aries loves a great redemption story and appreciates the story of the violent perpetrator, who becomes the loving protector. The action scenes, the romance (between Mortensen and Bello’s characters) and the intense performances of all the actors ensure that Ram remains glued to the screen until the end. Like Dodgeball, one of the main characters, Bello, is an Aries.
Action
Hay wire
Starring Gina Carano, an Aries herself, and former mixed martial arts champion, in her first film, “centers the plot about Mallory Kane (Carano), a Black Ops agent who is betrayed by her employers and targeted for assassination in a conspiracy that she is forced to unravel” (wiki). The story is told through a series of beautifully choreographed fight scenes that showcase Carano’s skills as a true fighter.
Why Aries will love it
Aries appreciates a truly skilled fighter, especially one who can handle themselves in unarmed combat, using both skill and strength. Continuing the “one against many” theme that Aries so enjoys, the film delivers one of the most spectacular fight scenes in cinema when Carano and Michael Fassbender face off in a hotel room.
When Fassbender’s character talks to the man who wants to kill Carano’s character (played by Ewan MacGregor) before meeting her, MacGregor’s character warns Fassbender, “Oh, you shouldn’t think of her as a woman.” No, that would be a mistake.”
Romance
First knight
Starring Richard Gere, Julia Ormond and Sean Connery, this film takes on King Arthur and focuses on the ill-fated love between Lancelot and Guinevere. Their romance destroys Arthur and brings down Camelot.
The story has been retold many times, so there are no plot twists to be expected, which isn’t a problem for an Aries viewer. Romance, action and tragedy will all hit the right chords through the charismatic performances of the three actors.
Why Aries will love it
Aries definitely wants action in a romantic movie, and they want intense feelings. The true heart of the story of Arthur, Lancelot and Guinevere is the deep love they feel for each other, which is certainly reflected in all performances.
Even the poetic license to transform the plot into something more ‘Hollywood’ will appeal to Ram, who is not a stickler for historical or literary accuracy.
Children
Chicken Little
In this 2005 Disney animated film, a piece of the sky literally falls on the head of a young chicken. Keeping with the underdog theme that Aries loves, Chicken Little tells the story of a courageous chicken who must come to the aid of his fellow citizens when aliens invade Earth. A collection of misfits join forces to save the world. And the movie features a hilarious dodgeball scene.
Why Aries will love it
This movie contains the best quote of all time for Aries: “Today is a new day!” In this film, Aries viewers see the indomitable will that defines the sign. No matter the odds, Chicken Little finds a way to maintain his positive attitude, sense of humor and heroic belief that he can win the day, especially when the odds are against him.
The humor is quick and the action scenes are extremely funny, which Aries will appreciate. Aries children will see themselves in the main character quite easily.
Fantasy
Excalibur
The second Arthurian film to make the list, this version has a much more mystical story than First Knight, which takes a more historical, romantic approach. This version of the Arthurian legend, produced in 1981 and directed by John Boorman, is still considered one of the best, if not the best. Truly a sword and sorcery film, the film’s special effects and creativity hold up even today.
Why Aries will love it
A really complete video for almost all boards. The action, romance and quest to do what is right and right appeal to the Aries viewer. Arthur’s legend as the one and only king, the errant knight Lancelot, the beautiful maiden conflicted between duty and love, the powerful sorcerer Merlin and the evil sorceress Morgan Le Fay strike the right note for Aries, who loves a story about the battle between good and bad.
Honorable mention
- Science fiction: the fifth element
- Horror: alien
- Superhero: Black Panther (the character’s first appearance was April 12, 1966, making him also an Aries).
If you select these movies to watch with your Aries friend, partner, or loved one, they will be pleasantly impressed with your choices.
