Missouri Republican Rep. Eric Burlison said in a podcast Tuesday that UFOs/UAPs could be “angels” sent by God.
“They may not exactly fit the Biblical story, but whenever I use the term ‘angels,’ to me it’s synonymous with an extradimensional being,” Burlison told “That UFO Podcast.”
Burlison made the comments after a secret congressional briefing on UFOs in early January attended by him and a few other lawmakers.
The timing of the briefing aroused suspicion and took place shortly after Congress decided to withhold all government agency data on UFOs from the public, possibly indefinitely. Despite years of promises for disclosure, Burlison noted that the meeting did not significantly change his views on aliens.
“I think it’s more likely to be something extra-dimensional than something within this dimension,” he continued.
“And what I’m saying is that when you start talking about things in that nature, that they are extradimensional, well, in many different scriptures, including the Bible and others, that’s basically the way you describe it. messengers from God or, you know, angels.”
Burlison’s musings come after he attended a classified briefing on UFOs this month, although he said afterward that nothing he learned there had fundamentally changed his worldview.
“Nothing was said that changed my worldview,” he told the Kansas City Star. “I believe in the accuracy of the claims made by the people who testified at the public hearing. Now that that has been said, I believe what they think they said is true.”
Burlison is not the only one to muse about a connection between UFOs and religious texts.
“UFOs were in the Bible,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) claimed in 2021. “Read Ezekiel, it talks about the wheel flying around. So I mean, they’ve been around since we’ve been around and someone needs to come up with some answers.”
Tennessee Republican Representative Tim Burchett has also raised the connection between UFOs and Biblical stories, as reported by Fox59, and similar perspectives have been considered by international government agencies.
Many enthusiasts cite the apocryphal Book of Enoch as evidence supporting the idea that aliens are angels. According to this interpretation, fallen angels descended from heaven and interbred with humans, resulting in a hybrid species known as the Nephilim.
The Nephilim in turn are said to have transferred advanced technologies to humans, leading to negative consequences. Finally, God intervened and caused a great flood to wipe them out and prevent further damage to creation.
Although this is a simplified summary, the Book of Enoch has gained popularity in recent years due to its alignment with these themes.
