Researcher Jean Ward recently made a curious discovery while he investigated a series of images made by Nasa’s Curiosity Rover on the surface of Mars.
The photos in question were taken by the mastcam of the Rover on 30 April 2025-specific on SOL 4526 of his current mission and display an unusual, disc-shaped object that is partially embedded in the slope of a Mars-hill.
Ward performed an analysis of the images and focused carefully on the abnormal structure. To improve clarity, the researcher carried out digital retouching, whereby the automated grid overlay was removed by the imaging equipment of the Rover.
This refinement caused a sharper representation of the finer details of the object, revealing textures and contours that would otherwise have unnoticed.
For a better context, Ward has put together a composite photo by merge two separate frames. The resulting collage offers a broader perspective of the surrounding landscape, with the hilly region where the mysterious formation was found.

The disk -like object appears partially immersed in the hill, positioned in the vicinity of what could possibly be the entrance of an underground cavity or cave.
The smooth, semi -circular circumference of the object contrasts sharply with the rough, natural rock formations around it. The surface seems unnaturally polished, in contrast to the eroded geology that is typical of Mars.
The researchers have put forward an intriguing hypothesis: can this disk be a remnant of an old structure-miserschien a sealed gateway, a buried Liège or even a fragment of a huge underground complex built by a long-lost civilization?
In the meantime, space lovers can examine the original, unprocessed images that are available on NASAs Official website.
