If you’re a fan of the supernatural and enjoy the thrill of being scared, read on to discover some of the most haunted hotels in Derbyshire.

Haunted Derbyshire Hotels

The Castle Inn

Castle Street, Castleton, S33 8WG

Located in the charming village of Castleton, The Castle Inn is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. However, this historic inn is also home to several ghostly residents. The most famous of these is the rejected bride walking down the hallway to the dining room where her breakfast was.

Other ghosts include a gray-haired lady, a middle-aged man in a blue pinstripe suit, and a misty woman who appears to walk through the floor up to her waist. The inn also has a nurse, an elderly lady thought to be a housekeeper, a girl who was murdered in 1603, and a legless soldier in the cellar.

The miners’ weapons

Water Lane, Eyam, S32 5RG

The Miners Arms is a quaint pub in the village of Eyam. However, the pub has a dark history and is said to be haunted by a former landlady who died in the 17th century after being thrown down the stairs.

Visitors to the pub have reported hearing running footsteps, objects moving on their own and the sound of a clock being wound. There have also been sightings of two young girls, Sarah and Emily, who are believed to have lost their lives in a fire in the 17th century.

Bagshaw Hall

Bagshaw Hill, Bakewell, DE45 1DL

Bagshaw Hall is a beautiful country house hotel in Bakewell. However, the hotel has a tragic history and is said to be haunted by the ghost of Thomas Bagshaw.

Bagshaw was so proud of his new house that he showed it to several people, including the Duke of Rutland. However, the Duke’s comment that he could claim the house at any time so upset Bagshaw that he hanged himself in the attic.

The Manor House Hotel is a beautiful Grade II listed building that once consisted of four separate cottages. The hotel is said to be haunted by the ghost of an old lady said to be 70 years old, with tied back hair and long skirts. Visitors to the hotel have reported feeling her touch or clinging to their arms. She also occasionally moves small items and utensils. Her ghost is found in what used to be No. 10.

The Moon Inn is a charming country pub said to be haunted by a Scottish peddler who operated in the Eyam area in the 18th century. He hated the locals who tried to undercut prices for his products.

In revenge, he reported them for operating without a license, and they followed him to the Moon Inn where he was murdered.

Ilam Hall YHA is a historic hotel in Derbyshire that is said to be haunted by a ghostly white lady who wanders the corridors.

Visitors to the hostel have also reported seeing a ghost carriage and horses turning around in the hall’s courtyard. Footsteps and sounds can also be heard in the stables.
